Ngoana oa Noka ea Kubetu
Created for Season 11 at The Centre for the Less Good Idea
Ngoana oa Noka ea Kubetu follows Pesa's two distinct memories - being introduced to the Kubetu river by his father as a young Mofokeng boy, and him giving his father water with a teaspoon before his death. These memories led to a deeper reflection around humanity's relationship to water - how humans are part water and how they connect to other forms of water.
As such, the piece straddles a world that is a blend of the seen and unseen, the tangible and the intangible, and the interaction between these realms and an attempt at a harmony between the natural and spiritual worlds.
Ngoana oa Noka ea Kubetu is conversation with water. An imploration to truly listen, not with our ears, but with our skin, our rituals and our fibre.
